What is Catch-a-Balls?

Catch-a-balls is all about enjoying sport: we want to get pre-school children involved in and loving sport.

Catch-a-balls is about being active: we want children to discover the fun in sport and physical exercise.

In a Catch-a-balls class we use a wide array of challenges so the kids develop good hand-eye co-ordination enabling them to handle any ball they wish whether it is a cricket ball, netball ball, rugby ball, tennis ball – guess you have the idea now!

Classes are suitable for girls and boys from about 18 months, up to school age. In the two younger groups parents and carers join in the fun, enabling the adults to discover a few games to use at home. While our older class is independent, so the adults can have a little sit at the side and watch the progress.

0Z5A4245The classes are split into three age groups:
Club BOING – 18 months to 2½ yrs,
Club BOUNCE – 2½ yrs to 3½ yrs
Club CATCH – 3½ yrs to school age.

Club Boing is all about experimenting using scarves, balloons and getting to grips with our super soft nim balls – which can be nearly as big as the children. Activities tend to be about exploration, so the youngsters can gain confidence catching a moving object and managing their feet.

Club Bounce is more structured; we focus on specific throws and ask the children to stand or move in a particular way. So, the children will learn their under arm throw, over arm throw and chest pass. Everyone is encouraged to challenge themselves.

0Z5A4644The oldest class, Club Catch, is an independent class, encouraging children to take turns and play games with their peers. We follow the National Early Year Foundation Stage so your child can build confidence in activities that will support them in nursery and school.

Our Philosophy

Catch-a-balls operates in the belief that children should:
• Believe in their own personal worth and achievement
• Be nurtured to develop their skills in a suitable way
• See sport and fitness as a pleasurable part of a healthy lifestyle
We provide an environment where everyone can learn and not be sidelined if they are not the best and we recognise every child’s progress.

...we very much enjoyed our first session. I thought the class was fun whilst hopefully also helping my son with his understanding and ability to follow simple instructions.

We did really enjoy the class. I liked that it was structured but fun and relaxed, and was pleased that my son seemed to get in to it straight away…..

My son really enjoyed the class...He particularly enjoyed the games with the large balls and running up and down the room in the pirate themed game. It's a relief for me to find a class where I'm not having to tell him to keep sitting down! It was great to have such a variety of games and activities....
